Our Vision
Image Description: Many people hanging out on a hillside in Powderhorn Park.
Minneapolis People’s Pride is an annual pride event founded by Ani Cassellius and Lake Owens in 2021. It was made possible by the vast Minneapolis queer community of artists, creators, and friends. We offer a non-corporate alternative pride event for the city of Minneapolis. We are inspired by communities in other cities that have held similar events. We seek to build community through joy, provide support and solidarity with the greater Twin Cities, and connect queer people to a meaningful sense of pride.
-
It will always direct funds raised to local (ideally queer) artists and mutual aid. This event is specifically non-corporate; we do not advertise or take sponsorship from any corporations.
(Nonprofits are not preferred and will be handled on a case-by-case basis by leadership - mutual aid groups are our maintained focus)
-
Corporate greed has no place in the queer community. Queer liberation cannot be sponsored by capitalist means!
-
While we do not shame others for attending that event, we strive to create an anti-capitalist alternative pride event.
-
There are abundant community resources to keep us safe and we will provide de-escalation resources to ensure a peaceful and welcoming environment. Members of the police and those who unjustly enforce power, white supremacy, and heteropatriarchy, are not welcome at Minneapolis People’s Pride.
-
People’s Pride takes place in Powderhorn park and will bear in mind the need to care for the community. Vendors and performers will be engaging with a variety of subjects relating to our community. Embracing “taboo” topics like sexuality and radical politics is both part of the queer experience and the history of our community. However, we understand the difference of opinion and expression among the queer community. We have been asked abut “kid-friendliness’’ and encourage guardians to decide if the content in this space is right for young people in their care.
-
We will not provide or serve any alcoholic beverages on site.
-
We seek to meet the needs of our community and use feedback to improve our event.
